Selvagens Selvagens
It was created in 1971 and it’s one of the eldest Natural Reserves in Portugal. Nowadays it’s the only Portuguese Natural reserve that is distinguished by the European Diploma of Europe’s Council.
This reserve was created in order to protect both flora and maritime fauna that reproduced in the area, where we highlight the Cagarra (Calonectris diomedea borealis), against the intensive predatory human actions, based on the raising up of engine boats along its coast.
As a matter of fact, Selvagens has always been considered an “ornithological sanctuary”.
