Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira Print E-mail

 The Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira is installed in this building since the 16th century, what used to be the City´s Custom.

The ancient Customs of Funchal had a Gothic flavor, alfarge ceilings and a Mudejar architecture style and was built around 1519.

This building has undergone several changes and improvements in the 17th and 18th century.
In 1982 work began on the restoration of this property for future installation of the Regional Legislative Assembly of Madeira.
The responsibility of the architecture was left to Chorão Ramalho, and was completed five years later, inaugurating this new building in December 1987.
In the yard, near the chapel, was placed a statue of the Madeiran sculptor Amândio Sousa, entitled "Powers Trilogy"

A Assembleia Regional da Madeira está instalada neste edifício, do séc. XVI, onde funcionou a Alfândega do Funchal.
 
A antiga alfândega do Funchal, de sabor Gótico, tinha tectos de alfarge, ao gosto mudéjar, e foi mandada construir por volta de 1519.
 
Este edifício sofreu várias alterações/melhorias nos séc. XVII e XVIII.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Em 1982 começaram os trabalhos de recuperação e adaptação, deste imóvel, para futura instalação da Assembleia Legislativa regional da Madeira.
 
Os trabalhos da responsabilidade do arquitecto Chorão Ramalho ficaram concluídos 5 anos mais tarde, tendo o novo edifício sido inaugurado em Dezembro de 1987.
 
 
"Triologia dos Poderes"
 
No pátio, junto à capela, foi colocada uma estátua do escultor madeirense Amândio Sousa intitulada “Trilogia dos Poderes”.
